Today’s run was a run to beat the rain.  Rain had been forecast to begin around noon, so I managed to get out by quarter of 11.  I wasn’t as fast as I could have/should have been but I am fairly sure that my 4th mile should have been faster because I forgot to pause my watch at the stoplight! Overall, I felt pretty good, despite being a bit sore from 2 hours of Pilates the evening before.

Today’s recovery included foam rolling, an epsom salt bath, and an hour sports massage.  It hurt so good and was much needed.  Definitely something to keep in mind as training ramps up.  I’m sure I’ll be getting another one sooner than later!

I know I carry on a bit about pace and worrying about it overall, but today while I was on my run I took some time to think about why I was really doing all of this.  It’s not because I want to be the best runner in the world, but because I want to be the best me I can be.  I know I might forget about this in the midst of all the training and running and worrying about not being fast enough.  But in the end, an 11 or 12 minute mile will still get me across the finish line.

I meant every word I said earlier.  I don’t want to go back to the person I was 4-5+ years ago.  I was miserable and unhappy and I wasn’t living a healthy or my best life.  I was miserable, fat, and didn’t want to do do anything or go anywhere.  I was ashamed at what I had become.  And now, while I’m not exactly where I would like to be, every day I am getting closer to it.

Welcome to week 7! After a much needed rest day (and I actually did rest instead of going to a Pilates class or lifting or walking for 2 hours) I was hopeful about today’s run.  And while it wasn’t 100% perfect and on plan, it was closer than most of my attempts last week.  So I will take it.

I do know I really need to work on setting a consistent pace (like how to people do that?) and running and breathing while running into a gusty headwind (or maybe I need to find a route with less wind tunnel factors?).  At least I still have some time to figure all of this out.  And at the very least, based on the running that I have been doing, I’ll have a massive PR come October.

The rest of this week looks very rainy, so there might be some treadmill running in the very near future.  Hopefully, there will be some dry times this weekend as I’ve got 10 miles on the schedule!

I’m a bit behind in my posting, not that anyone’s noticed.

Saturday was my last run for week 6 and I was mostly able to avoid running in the rain.  There were a few moments where it rained for about 30 seconds, but it wasn’t too bad.  Most of the issues that I encountered on the run was down to poor fuelling and the insane gusty winds.

Overall, I felt that the run was ok, but I wasn’t at all pleased with the mile splits or how long it took overall.  I really must find a way to pace myself better and work to address running in windy conditions.  I did enjoy listening to one of the new Blake’s 7 audiobooks for the first half of the run, so that was probably the best part about it!

Roll on week 7!

Overall distance for week 6: 20.18

Overall distance for week 5: 18.12

Overall distance for week 4: 17.05

Overall distance for week 3: 18.15

Overall distance for week 2: 14.08

Overall distance for week 1: 12.70

Yesterday’s run was challenging.  My legs were aching something fierce from 2 hours of Pilates but I still went out and got the run done anyways.  My pace wasn’t what it should have been, but considering I was roasting in capris, had sore legs, and had gusting winds in my face on the return, it was as good as it was going to get.

It was meant to be a steady paced 4.5 miler, but in the end it was a fairly slow paced 4.5 miler!

Today’s run was meant to be a slower paced 11 minute mile run but as it was windy and raining when I left for the gym, I banged out 3 miles in just under 30 minutes on the treadmill!

I was glad I pushed myself as I’ve been feeling pretty frustrated that I’ve not been able to hold this pace on the longer runs.  I know I can, I just find it hard.  Hopefully, I will see some improvement by October!

I’m really looking forward to my 8 miler on Saturday.  I’m hoping it’s not too rainy as I really do not want to run it indoors.  I’m especially excited as I still have brand new Blake’s 7 to listen to that I’ve been saving for my long runs.

Welcome to week 6 and summer in Glasgow (meaning the handful of days where it gets above 20C!)!

The basics:

Run designation: steady

Distance: 4.5 miles

Intended pace: 10-10:30 min/mile

Actual pace: 11’50” average 🙄

How did the run go?

As soon as I walked outside this morning I knew there was no way I was going to manage a 10 minute mile.  It was HOT and I suck at maintaining that pace on the best of days.  So I just ran because I like running and enjoyed the weather and the sun, although at points I did question my sanity for not waiting until now when it happened to be far cooler to run.

The rest of the week looks to be very rainy, so I bet the next two runs will be indoors.  I am hoping for a break over the weekend for my 8 miler.
