I’m always caught between my thesis, writing for pleasure, social media, and writing a blog entry.  Guess what comes last consistently?

So, April.  Let’s see.  I’ve been running 3 times a week and I’ve started going to Pilates again.  I even signed up for a reformer class and that has been going well.

Even more out of character, I joined a run club and I PRed my 5k.

I’m still not sure it’s right for me, to be honest.  I am, by far, the slowest.  I don’t like to be the worst or last at something; probably a character flaw.  I am glad that I tried, and even more that I waited until now to do so.  If I had tried a year and a half ago when I had originally considered it, I probably would have never run again.

This has nothing to do with the club or the people, as they have all been very nice and welcoming.  I just feel very insecure and uncomfortable when I’m so noticeably different.

I didn’t go last week because it was freezing and rain/snowing and I had just gotten my hair done (I know, vanity).  Hopefully this week will be more favourable as I really dislike running in the rain.  I have texture issues and wet socks really squick me out.  Maybe someday I’ll get past that.

I’ve signed up for the Women’s 10K in June and am ready for it!

In thesis news, it’s actually going well, a far cry from where I was a year ago!  My supervisors are pleased, I’m pleased.  I’m getting the support I need.  All I need to do is to stop procrastinating!

I’ve planned out my 41st birthday.  I wasn’t sure anything could top my 40th, but it looks like this birthday is going to be close.  #adorablehusbands #internetBFFs #London #theatre

And last, but most certainly not least, this happened.  It certainly was a great way to end April!

Ahead for May?  Having the first full draft of my thesis completed (Eeeeek!), attending my first Barre class, and hopefully finding something fun or adventurous to do.

So where was I?

Monday- After teaching, I went out with my “co-workers” for a drink.  Two glasses of wine and I am anyone’s girl!

Tuesday- Birthday!  After a late night where the Red Sox didn’t win, I slept in and then I honestly couldn’t tell you what I did!  I know Steph and I went to Tribeca for dinner and then caught up on Downton Abbey.  It was a nice quiet birthday.  And I got  my win that night.  🙂

Wednesday- I attempted to get some work done, and then went for a coffee to meet up with Kirsty.

Thursday-I went to the gym and spent some time on the treadmill seeing how my legs felt after Sunday.  I worked on my chapter and then went out to dinner with Steph and Kirsty.

Friday-I got a ton of writing done.  In fact, I was only short 300 words when I finished for the day.

I went for an easy 5K run in the afternoon where I froze my bits off.  It was really cold despite long tights and a long sleeved top.  I did notice my right leg/knee was really sore again so I figured I really needed new trainers.

Saturday- I went into city centre (this is the last time I go into the city on a weekend until after Christmas.  It was madness!)  I went to Run4It and got fitted for new trainers.  Apparently I am no longer overpronating, which is probably why my right side has been hurting.  I got new trainers and they are lovely.  I tried on several pairs including:

Nike Lunarglide+5

Brooks Ghost 6

But I ended up getting:

Saucony Ride 6

I would love to get either of the other pairs as well for backup, but I only have so much money!  I can’t wait to take them to the gym ASAP and try them out!

The rest of the day was spent finishing writing a chapter for my dissertation.

And then I was up until 5am for game 1 of the ALCS.

Sunday: I had so many plans in my head for Sunday, but none of them really came true.  We went for coffee and to Waitrose for some groceries.   I was so tired I couldn’t really focus on anything.  I painted my nails and took a nap.  Steph made a really good dinner of roasted veggies and salmon.  Yum.

And then it was another late night.  But so worth it.  My MLB tv wouldn’t stay connected so, when Dave O’Brien made the call on WEEI last night for the grand slam . . . .well let’s just say I was wide awake after that!

All things considered, it was a pretty good week!

No sleep ’til November!

I made some relatively easy goals for October.  However, setting goals is easy.  Following up on them- not so much.

So my goals for October were:

1. Do my research.

Well, I did get all my notes typed up (all 100+ pages) and I’ve read a few new articles.  However, I haven’t met with my advisor, I haven’t really done much IMO.  Grade: D

2. Keep up on Statistics reading and work

Yeah, no.  Just didn’t happen.  I get the broad concepts, but the formulas, etc just make me batty.  And I’m 2 weeks behind on the labs.  Grade: F

3. Workout 3-4 times a week.

Well I did make sure I got at least 3 walks/workouts in each week.  They weren’t really super awesome or anything.  I did spend several days in agony with a headache and then a UTI, so there was that, but that is no excuse for not working out harder.  I’m grading myself a B- b/c I did actually DO what I said I would, but I know I could be better.

4. Enjoy my birthday.

Yeah, that didn’t happen either.  I had a terrible headache all night/day of my birthday, made it through halfway of my lecture, and then headed home to bed.  I didn’t go out or do anything special, which was fine.  I just didn’t feel well enough.  Steph did make me a nice dinner that weekend so that was nice, but the birthday day, just sucked.  And it didn’t help that I got NO help from neuro #7 afterward.  Grade: D

I hope that whatever goals I set for November I can actually STICK to them.  Perhaps I will post them to my mirror so that they are visible.  Might make it easier to stick to if I know what I am sticking to!  🙂

Today is my birthday.  It’s hard to think about this day knowing that the person who brought me into it isn’t here anymore. 🙁

Ok, enough of that.  Today ended up being just like any other day.  Of course last night I had another bad pain night (stupid headache) and didn’t really sleep with the pain and sort of dozed off and on.  And of course I had class today.  I managed to make it through class,  but bailed on the tutorial and lab.  I was so exhausted and headachy I was useless in following anything that was going on.  Hopefully I will feel better at some point and can make up the work independently.  I am so glad that my neuro appointment is Saturday (even if it is at an ungodly hour of the morning!)

As it was a uni day for both Steph and I, we didn’t have anything planned.  We were going to do Sunday roast at Curler’s Rest last night but, with my stupid headache….. it will have to be next weekend perhaps.

In the meantime, I’ve had a lovely salmon dinner and will have a cupcake to celebrate my cake day!  🙂

Watch this space for new dietary plan changes, an exercise plan (more change in time, rather than what I’m doing), and hopefully good news from the PT on Wednesday on my knee.
